Students will create a shoe box-size identity box.
Method
They will gather information about themselves, their cultural heritage, and their personalities. The students will gather and arrange pictures, objects, and writings, and other items that symbolize aspects of their personalities and personal histories into dioramas to display. This will help the students get to know each other better and share some of their cultural history and family background.
Students may want to explore how far back in their family history they have to go in order to get to the point when their relatives first cane to this country. They may want to show some of the customs and traditions that their family celebrates on special occasions. This may include foods, recipes, and things that they do as a family or with others that may be customs that originated with their ancestors.
Conclusion
There are no right or wrong answers in this activity, and students can explore and share their cultural diversity and heritage with other students which will help in promoting a understanding and awareness of the differences that make each student unique and special.
