Students and staff at Metcalf Junior High School will honor a former teacher with a special public event that will also raise funds for scholarships.
The fifth annual Renae Gustafson Scholarship Basketball Game with staff versus students will take place at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9 at the school, 2250 Diffley Road, Burnsville. Tickets, $3 for students and $5 for adults, can be purchased at the game.
“This event will be fun for everyone,” said Lori Maidment, an organizer of the event. “The jazz band will play, the student and staff dancelines will perform, staff cheerleaders will cheer, and staff will surely win the game!”
Gustafson, a physical education teacher and coach, died in a car accident several years ago. Several scholarships have been presented in her name to former Metcalf female students as they graduated from Burnsville High School.
