Sky Oaks Elementary

Family Fun Night is Jan. 9

Mark your calendars for Thursday, Jan. 9 and plan to attend our very first Sky Oaks Family Roller Skating Party! The cost is $6 per person and includes roller skates (inline skates are an extra $4).

This fun event will be held at Skateville (201 River Ridge Circle S in Burnsville) from 6-8 p.m. All students need to be accompanied by an adult but you don't have to pay if you don't skate! Dinner will not be served but Skateville has a full service snack bar.

In addition, we'll have drawings, listen to great music, and do the "Hokey Pokey!" Let's have fun with this, get some exercise, and "roll" into the New Year with family and friends at Skateville!

Melanie Bryant honored as TIES Exceptional Teacher

Sky Oaks fourth grade teacher Melanie Bryant is one of two District 191 educators named TIES 2013 Exceptional Teachers. Along with Eagle Ridge Junior High teacher Jeff Hammer, Bryant will be honored during the TIES Education Technology Conference in December.

The award is for teachers who model best practices in using technology in their classrooms to engage students in learning.

Veterans Day Program

Sky Oaks students and staff paid tribute to the men and women who serve in the United States Armed Forces with a Veterans Day Program on Monday, Nov. 11. The program included a history of Veterans Day, a medley of patriotic songs, and guest speaker Sgt. Abdulcadir Haji.

E-News is Changing: Be sure you're getting the information you want

Our school is updating the way we send e-newsletters to parents. Starting in August 2013, instead of using a separate messaging system, we're going to use the email addresses already provided by parents through their students' health and emergency forms. This way, there's only one account for you (and us) to maintain.
