Welcome to St. Louis Park High School

School Board Selects Metz as Superintendent

The School Board for ISD #283 St. Louis Park Public Schools unanimously selected Mr. Robert Metz to become its next superintendent on Thursday, May 9, and agreed to enter into contract negotiations.

Metz has been Principal at St. Louis Park High School for the past six years. The high school is consistently rated one of the top high schools in Minnesota and under Metz’s leadership has successfully blended an International Baccalaureate (IB) program, an Advanced Placement (AP) program, a Spanish Immersion program, as well as a new academy learning structure that is an outgrowth of the federal Investing in Innovation (i3) grant.

Before leading the high school, Metz was Principal at Aquila Elementary School for nine years. During his tenure, Aquila received a “Beating the Odds” award from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) while closing the achievement gap and improving the school’s reputation.

With more than 30 years experience in public education, Metz has a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and attended the Harvard Principals Academy where he learned from national and international education experts and then applied his learning to both Aquila and the High School.

“In Rob we welcome a seasoned leader with years of experience in our schools and the St. Louis Park community,” said Bruce Richardson, School Board Chair. “He has the skills and experience as well as the student, parent and staff support to move our schools and district to the next level of excellence!”

Contract negotiations with Metz will begin immediately. School Board action is tentatively scheduled for May 28, 2013. Assuming successful contract negotiations, Metz will assume the duties of Superintendent for St. Louis Park Public Schools beginning July 1, 2013.

The selection of Metz as superintendent comes after a lengthy process involving students, parents, staff and community members led by Superintendent Search Consultants School Exec Connect.

The Washington Post has ranked SLP High School as the 2nd most challenging high school in Minnesota.

The ranking is determined by taking the total number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school each year and dividing by the number of seniors who graduated in June.
